Charming Home at Verlengde Fortlaan 3

Seven years ago, my two daughters and I made this special house at Verlengde Fortlaan 3 in Naarden our home. In just twelve weeks, we completely stripped and rebuilt it, respecting its original architectural style. The result is a stylish, modern house that retains its character and charm.

The location is truly unique. Verlengde Fortlaan is situated in the popular Ministerkwartier, a quiet, green neighborhood with all amenities within walking distance. Naarden-Bussum train station is literally around the corner, as are several primary and secondary schools, as well as playgrounds. Sports clubs and fields are just a five-minute bike ride away. The lively center of Naarden-Bussum, with its shops, restaurants, and facilities, is also nearby. In short: a wonderful place to live.

Layout
Entrance, hallway, toilet, open kitchen, utility room, living and dining room with en suite layout, including a sunroom and a wood-burning fireplace. French doors open out to both the front garden and the cozy patio—an ideal spot for barbecues. The wooden flooring and original details give the home a warm and characterful atmosphere.

First Floor
Landing, three bedrooms, one of which has access to a balcony at the front of the house (south-facing). Spacious and fully equipped bathroom.

Details
Possibility to add a second floor, expanding the living space by approximately 40 m²
Living area: 110 m² (NEN-measured)
Volume: 420 m³
Plot size: 90 m²
High-efficiency boiler (installed in 2016)

After seven wonderful years, it’s time for a new chapter for us—though we’re staying nearby. Because once you live here, you never really want to leave.

Fun Facts
Verlengde Fortlaan lies just outside the former “forbidden zones” of the Naarden Fortress. Around 1900, houses here were mostly built of wood so they could be quickly dismantled in times of war.
Naarden-Bussum Station, just a few minutes' walk away, is the oldest surviving commuter station in the Netherlands.
The Ministerkwartier neighborhood emerged when fortress regulations were relaxed, allowing Naarden to expand beyond the city walls.
The surrounding area features unique early-20th-century architecture, such as the characteristic Sandtmann houses and the villa The Brownies (built in 1921).
Within ten minutes, you can walk to the fortress and find yourself immersed in centuries of history.
Naarden is also very centrally located in the Randstad region. Major roads offer easy access, getting you to both Amsterdam and Utrecht in just twenty minutes.
