From disappointment to our dream home
Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn – and in the end, that turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to us.
Fourteen years ago, we were looking for an apartment in the Landstraat Noord development. We were already living in an apartment and thought that would once again be the perfect choice. Unfortunately, the apartments we were interested in had just been sold. Disappointed, we were ready to head home.
The estate agent suggested that we take a look at a few canal houses before leaving. It wasn't something we had considered at all, but from the very first moment we were captivated. The view over the canal, the generous living space, the private parking space and storage room in the underground garage, the location, and the friendly neighbourhood immediately won us over. The supermarket is less than 200 metres away, Naarden-Bussum railway station is within walking distance, and both the centre of Bussum and the weekly market are close by. Everything you need is literally just around the corner.
We immediately placed an option on the property. After taking a few days to think it over, we knew for certain: this would become our new home. We have never regretted that decision for a single moment. For fourteen wonderful years, we have lived here with great pleasure and created countless beautiful memories. We sincerely hope the new owners will feel just as at home here as we did from the very beginning.
As you enter from Landstraat, the first thing you notice is the impressive high ceiling, which continues through the entrance hall, the storage room, and the front room. Five steps lead you into the spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area, the true heart of the home. From here, you enjoy beautiful views over the canal towards Nieuwe Englaan. Underfloor heating makes the kitchen especially comfortable, keeping your feet warm during the winter months. Thanks to the excellent insulation and solar panels, the house is also highly energy-efficient.
One floor above is the bright and inviting living room, complete with a wonderful waterside terrace. The electrically operated awning provides welcome shade on warm summer days, creating the perfect place to relax outdoors. During the summer, children occasionally swim in the canal, and you'll often see people paddleboarding past. They sometimes have to duck beneath the bridges along the way, which only adds to the charm of living here.
The top floor features two spacious bedrooms and the bathroom. We installed a skylight, allowing plenty of natural light to flood the bathroom. The skylight can also be opened, providing fresh air and natural ventilation.
This home has given us so much more than we ever expected. What started as an alternative to an apartment became a place where we felt at home from day one. Now it is time for a new chapter, and we wish the next owners just as much happiness and enjoyment in this wonderful home as we have experienced over the past fourteen years.
